OK - Finally had some time to wrap this lil project up and the courage to “just do it” & import to my Simrad GO9 today. I will also post when/if I hear from ExpertGPS re my error message. I’m going to try to save my edits to a micro SD next. So, I used that same email address with my error question - no response. I’m wondering if they will get back with me? Interesting bc when I inquired with ExpertGPS about buying their program, they responded within 12 hours.

ExpertGPS program gave an error code and said to submit issue to their support, so I did (twice in 3 days). I had an error after many times saving to my desktop folder.

So, it looks promising and I made a bunch of changes to my Simrad tracks (cut, delete & edits). The program is pretty easy to use and provides a lot of info & options for manipulating data (good aerial overlay too). Saved my Simrad tracks and waypoints to micro SD 32GB as a standard Simrad file and dumped to ExpertGPS on my laptop. Garmin Basecamp and/or Homeport didn’t work with transfer to GPX file. Because with a Panoptix down view transducer, they should be the best mapping units hands down.Could not find anything on internet for Simrad track editing. This is the kind of #$&% these companies do that really triggers me. But you'll never have access to the data used to make the map in any useful form, limiting what you can really do on your Garmin and making it very difficult if not impossible to move that data to Lowrance or Humminbird in the future. So in a nutshell, Garmins (like the other two brands) will make an accurate map for you if you just drive around with the auto-mapping feature turned on. But now you've just given ownership of your data to Garmin. I mean you can review the data by uploading it to the QuickDraw Contours Community and then downloading it in Active Captain. If you want to make a map in ReefMaster with a Garmin you have to import depth and position data from GPX files of trails.yech.Įven with Garmin itself, I still don't think you can review maps on a computer, since you can't view them in HomePort.

But what happens when Lowrance or Humminbird come out with the next must have feature or Garmin shafts you as these companies are prone to do, and you want to switch brands? Are you going to just toss out all the work you've done with your Garmin and start all over again? Programs like ReefMaster can't even read Garmin's sonar files, nor can they generate maps for display on Garmin units. The big problem with Garmin's workflow for creating a map is you never have access to the actual data. But unless they have changed some things it's a really limited means of mapping. If you can stand the clutter it makes on your screen while it's drawing and revising the map constantly, that's going to meet the needs of most people. All three manufacturers have an auto-map feature that creates a map as you drive around. Sounds like you've used QuickDraw Contours to map the lakes you fish, and been fortunate to find some maps from the community social map for other lakes, just as I described.

I can access them on my phone and even on my android stereo In my truck which is super helpful ice fishing.

Can you elaborate? I have mapped several lakes in Alberta and Saskatchewan with my Garmin units as well as uploaded several other user made maps off active captain.
